I LOVE TO READ MONTH ACTIVITIES
February is “I Love To Read Month!” Our Olympic themed month will kick off with a school wide assembly on Friday, January 29, 1:30 p.m. Each class has been assigned a country which they will learn about throughout the month of February. During the kick off, each class will have two representatives carry in their country flag. The kick off will end with a lighting of the torch to begin the month!
The “Goal For Goldy,” which is our reading goal, will be for our entire student body to collaboratively read a total of 500,000 minutes throughout the month. If students reach their goal, our resident Hawkeye fan, Mr. Rodemeyer, will dress in Minnesota Gopher (Goldy) gear during our own version of the Winter Olympics.
Each classroom will be decorating their doors for their assigned country and follow their country throughout the Olympic Games.
During the month, we will have the following Dress Up Days:
Friday, February 5—Red Day—Wear Red for Women (American Heart Association) and Reading Day Friday, February 13—Red My Shirt Day
Friday, February 19—Go USA—Red, White, and Blue Day Friday, February 26—Read My Favorite Book Day Friday, March 1—Color Day (wear your grade level color)Second grade color is Yellow

Parents: Don't forget to log your students minutes on the sheet that was sent home. There will be fun prizes all month long for top reading classes.
